"And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ . . ."  Ephesians 4:12

Beyond preaching the gospel and personal evangelism, one of the roles of the evangelist is to help equip the saints for the work of ministry - specifically the ministry of reconciliation.  

As Mike has considered his role as an equipper, studied the word of God, and spent several years observing the modern church, he has concluded that more than needing to equip the church with a method of evangelism (although these are helpful), he needs to equip the church in three key relationships for effective evangelism:  relationship to God, the body of Christ, and non-believers.  When all three of these relationships are healthy, evangelism becomes a natural overflow.  The people of God will not stop talking about what they have seen and heard about Jesus. 

The lifestyle of Simple Evangelism is one of simple and pure devotion to Christ and one of loving people outside of the Kingdom, just like Jesus did.

Simple Evangelism offers ten steps that help believers connect with nonbelievers and highlights five key points of contact that every believer has with those without Christ.  These points of contact then become starting points to multiply the ministry of the church into the community and turn each believer’s mindset from methods to relationships:  relationship to God, relationship to those in the body of Christ, and relationship to nonbelievers.   

In the context of a trust relationship (which may or may not be what we would call a "friendship"), each believer seeks to discover a nonbeliever’s life story, share his own story of salvation and, most importantly, share God’s story of mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
